Worry Free Beauty Faves

Sooo I totally jumped on that whole healthy eating train but totally failed to realize (until the last few months) that everyday health and beauty products are also full of junk!

I was so worried about eating right and not putting certain things into my body when it came to eating that I just didn’t pay attention to anything else.

Of course, I’m not 100% perfect because I still love my Hot Cheetos but I have become a lot more conscious than I used to be.

As of late, I’ve been doing what I can to find healthier options for me without becoming too obsessive and extreme.

Let’s be honest, I am in no way ready to commit to all organic everything-

1. Because it gets super expensive

2. I am not even close to being ready to part with my favorite mascara, Maybelline Falsies.

Here are a few of my favorite “worry free” beauty products that I have switched over to and just loveeeeee.

I started breaking out on my back and it’s been freaking me out (insert crying emoji here).

I stopped alcohol and sugar (still off the sugar for my health) but it was still happening soooo I started to think it was the shampoo and conditioner I was using.

I found this brand at Target and it made me pretty happy. It’s only $10 a bottle and has a super short list of ingredients. I started comparing the shampoo I was using to others I wanted and realized how long those ingredients lists are. SCARYYY. Next time you’re in the shower, check it out.

This is a brand I was recommended but have yet to try. They are a little pricier but probably one of the better, less expensive “safe” brands out there! R+Co

When the breakouts started, I immediately switched out my body wash for this amazingggg soap! It’s organic, it’s fair trade and it smells SO good.

I hate showers. A lot. Like, so many other things I can get done with those 20 minutes and while I’m showering, all I’m thinking about are those things. The lavender really helps calm me down and enjoy my free time in the shower.

Seriously, love this stuff and you can also find it at Target or your local health food store!

I’ve done my essential oil posts before (here and here) but I’ve collected many more since then. doTerra is my absolute fave because they are so pure that you can ingest most of them. There are soooo many benefits to essential oils and they really help cure you in a natural way.

I LOVEEE to put the citrus oils in my water.

For stress, I am all about the lavender, serenity and balance. We have a diffuser in our bedroom and diffuse these oils nightly. It really relaxes you and helps you sleep more soundly.

Melaleuca is great for itchy scalp or zit zapper.

Deep Blue is my savior when it comes to working out and sore muscles.

I seriously could go on and on and on but there are just sooo many!

doTerra also makes an amazing toothpaste! I’m all about the anise-y, cinnamon-y taste and who doesn’t want an all natural teeth whitener?! Places like Sprouts, Whole Foods and Mother’s have some great natural toothpastes as well so be sure to test them all out until you find the one you like!

These salt sticks are my favorite way to deodorize because they work great, last forever and are actually safe! So many deodorants these days have harsh chemicals in them to prevent you from perspiring but that is so bad. SO bad. All those nasty toxins stay inside of you, build up and can cause breast cancer. Nooo thank you! Let’s save the tatas together!

I’m also huge on using coconut oil as a moisturizer. I bought two HUGE jars at Costco and use one for cooking and one for the bod.

SO amazing and so silky smooth!

Long post but had to share! What are some of your favorite “worry free” beauty products? I’m always looking for more!

Stuffed Avocados!

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

HOLY YUM, guys!!

Avo obessesed?! Because I am and these are sooo yummy!

I made them for dinner the other night – sooo easy and perfect to take to work for lunch!

Avo obsession is a healthy obsession so don’t freak out if you’re an addict. I mean, too much is bad but it’s better to eat more avo than it is to scarf down some ice cream or tato chips!

Stuffed Avocados

2 medium sized avocados

1 handful cherry tomatoes, chopped

 1/4 cup chopped red onion

1/4 cup organic corn

1/4 cup black bleans

1 lime, juiced

Slice avocados in half, scoop out the seed and cut into cubes. Scoop the meat out into a bowl and set the skins aside. Combine tomatoes, onion, corn, black beans, cilantro, lime juice and mix. Scoop back into your avo skins, top with salsa and enjoy!

You can sprinkle a little cheese on top and bake in the oven for a few minutes if you wish!

Seriously, so yummy and so good for you!

Avocados are full of healthy fats and contain over 20 different vitamins and minerals!  They are high in oleic acid which is bomb.com for healthy bods. They are loaded with fiber and can lower cholesterol levels. And did you know they contain more potassium than bananas?! I need an avo tree in my backyard, like stat!

Those are just a few of the amazing benefits of avos so while you’re doing your apple a day thang, throw in a small avo with that!

DIY: Glam Plant Pots

The other day I was grocery shopping at Sprouts and saw all of these adorable house plants. I seriously wanted to take home every single one of them and turn into a plant lady but HUGE prob with that…I can’t keep a plant alive for the life of me. Not even a succulent that can basically survive on its own. I can do a lot of things really well but keeping a plant alive is not one of them.

But I bought one anyway. I am determined to keep one alive and if it works, I can go back and buy some more!

I chose one that requires very little watering and indirect sunlight so it should thrive in my bedroom…I hope (on my hands and knees PRAYING).

And then I made this frickin’ ADORBS plant pot for it.

→Glam Plant Pot←

ceramic pot (I found mine at Michael’s)

acrylic paint

modge podge

painters tape

alphabet stickers in your fave font to spell out your saying

1. Paint your pot white. I used about 2-3 coats.

2. Once your pot is completely dry, tape off a section to glitter.

3. Working in thirds, paint on the modge podge and coat in glitter. Don’t be afraid to get glitter on the paint brush because it will come off. Once this dries, seal with a coat of MP.

4. Modge podge your alphabet stickers and coat in glitter. Once this dries, put another coat of MP on top to seal it.

5. When your pot is completely dry, remove the tape and add your stickers! I used a little bit of E6000 glue on the back because mine were a little thicker and I wanted to make sure they will stay put.

>>>You can totally be creative with this one. Use smaller stickers for a longer saying like, “Messy hair don’t care” or “Feed me”. Have fun with it and choose what suits you!<<<

My plant is a total BABE and she is going to be stylin’ in her new home…as long as she survives.

SHE WILL SURVIVE, SHE WILL SURVIVE, SHE WILL SURVIVE. Maybe if I say it enough times it’ll happen.

If anyone has any tips for me, they would be very much appreciated! I must learn to keep plants alive!

Almond Cups

I am HUGE HUGE HUGE fan of Reese’s PB Cups because what’s better than chocolate and PB?! Not much.

I used to eat these all of the time but now it’s a rare occasion that I will actually indulge in one.

Refined sugar is just SO bad for you and lately, sugar has been messing me up a little more than normal. Hello zits and fatigue!

About a year ago is when I really started to become aware of all of the refined sugar that I was consuming and put a halt to it. I don’t stay away 100% because that’s not realistic but I do try and look for healthier alternatives when I can.

And guess what? I haven’t been sick since! I used to get a lot of colds throughout the year but now my immune system is kickin’ strong.

My PB and chocolate addiction is serious and these hit the spot. They are clean and have NO refined sugar in them! They are the PERF replacement to Reese’s PB Cups! DIE.

→Almond Cups←

For the base:

3/4 cup almond meal

1/4 oat flour

2 TBSP raw almond butter

1 1/2 TBSP coconut oil

1 1/2 TBSP maple syrup

1/4 TSP cinnamon

1/4 TSP vanilla

pinch of pink himalayan salt

For the topping:

3 TBSP coconut oil

3 TBSP maple syrup

2 TBSP cacao powder

pinch of pink himalayan salt

Combine base ingredients into a bowl and stir until well combined. It should be a cookie dough like consistency. Press mixture into the bottom of your muffin tin pans. You can use mini or regular size. I don’t own a mini muffin tin so I used the regular size and it made about 7. Next, combine your topping ingredients and whisk until well combined. Spoon chocolate sauce evenly onto the tops. Sprinkle with a dash of salt and add an almond for garnish. Pop these into the freezer for about 45 minutes. Serve straight from the freezer!

These are super addicting so be careful! When you’re ready to serve them, you’ll need to pop them out with a knife. I start to go around the edges with the knife and it pops out pretty easily.

143% boyfran and dad approved. My guys LOVE these! It’s hard to even get your hands on one when they are around.

Easy breakfast options: Coconut Yogurt Parfaits

I’m all about quick and easy on-the-go options even when I’m not on the go and coconut yogurt parfaits are a love of mine.

Has anyone tried coconut milk yogurt? It’s SOO good and makes the perfect vegan option!

I don’t eat parfaits often because there is quite a bit of sugar in yogurt (amongst other things) but once in awhile they are the perfect treat!

And when they look this cute, it’s that much more exciting to eat!

Coconut Yogurt Parfaits:

Coconut yogurt of your choice

1 TBSP cacao nibs

1/4 cup oats

1/8 cup chopped walnuts

  4 big strawberries, sliced

1 TBSP unsweetened shredded coconut

In your mason jar, start with your yogurt on the bottom and layer cacao nibs, oats, walnuts and strawberries. Top with shredded coconut and enjoy!

If you have some lovely coworkers, try surprising them with a delish, healthy parfait once in awhile. You guys can all get on the healthy train together! Mason jars are pretty easy to find these days but I usually go straight to Michael’s to get mine.

Mason jar parfaits are so versatile and you really can use any ingredients you choose. I tend to mix it up every time just to stay balanced and keep things exciting!

Finding Inspiration

{My fave place with my fave human♥}

Do you ever get so mentally drained that you just don’t want to think about ANYTHING anymore?

That’s about where I’m at right now.

Starting up a couple of projects for work on top of a few other projects I have going on is exhausting. ESP when it’s shark week (a.k.a. that time of the month). TMI? Sorrryyyy bout it.

Anyways, I know we all hit those walls sometimes and need to figure out how to get that inspiration back and how to keep on keepin’ on.

Sooo, how do you do it?

I like to do my favorite things- the things that make me the happiest girl in the world.

{El Morro Canyon – one of the most magical places♥}

I LOVE to be outside in the sun with nature.

My ultimate favorite is to head to the beach and just lay there alllll day with some good tunes and great company. Sometimes, I like to go alone and bring a good book and just spend some quality time with myself. It’s seriously one of the best ways to recharge because you can just sit there and not say a word all day.

I also love anything fitness so hikes are another way I can get my inspo back. Working out is so great for the mind and the body so working out outside is killerrrr when it comes to helping you get your inspo back.

{Carl Lykken Trail in Palm Springs♥}

{Crystal Cove♥}

There is just something about being outside with nature that is so soothing. You can’t hear any cars, all you can hear are birds chirping and the waves crashing or the trees rustling.

Sometimes it’s easier said than done but you gotta take any chance you get to put yourself first. Go do what makes your happiest self because that’s the only way to keep the people around you happy too.

Relationships: Keeping it fresh

So I know I talk about JorBabe a lil here and there but have never really done anything relationship-y on the blog. I’m no expert but I know that Jor and I are prettyyy good at keeping things fresh and exciting. I think the number one thing for us is to always always always have date days/nights. Never stop dating your mate. Always dedicate at least one night a week to get dressed up and celebrate life and each other!

We love to be out around people and we love to try new things so we are constantly researching new things via Yelp and Google. We will do anything whether it’s a hike, breakfast, drinks, desserts, plays, golf, day road trips, theme parks, etc. etc. etc.

We are also HUGE on babecations but more on those later.

Another fave of ours is to put together a little food/drink tour. Sometimes we will pick a place that we’ve heard has amazing cocktails and we’ll start with a drink there. Next, we’ll head to a new place we heard about for the main dish and then another lil hip place for dessert!

A few weekends ago we decided to do a Tour De Tustin and grabbed our beach cruisers and headed out for a lil day drinking.

We started at Tustin Brewing Company because they have the BEST red ale you’ll ever have. If you’re in the area, you MUST go there and you MUST get the Red Hill Red. It’s seriously the best. Their steak nachos and buffalo wings are also TO DIE FOR. They are slightly healthier than the normal nachos and wings so you don’t feel as guilty eating them. JorBabe and I spend all of March Madness here. They have a ton of TVs and it’s within walking distance so we can enjoy ourselves a little more than normal.

After our the Red Hill Reds, we decided to bike down the street to Old Town Tustin. OTT is seriously SO cute. The entire El Camino Real street is lined with beautiful trees, quaint shops and fun bars/restaurants!

We talked one of our friends into coming out with us and we all headed to Quinn’s for some mimosas. Quinn’s is a super cute lil Irish bar that used to be one of the hippest places in T-town. The owner decided to get rid of the live music so it’s no longer a destination stop but more of a little refresher stop.

After a mimosa…or two… and some reminiscing, we walked on down the street to another fave new place called The Black Marlin.

This place is a ton of fun! They are always putting on new events and always have live music.  It’s become very popular and is near to impossible to get a seat unless you show up early. The food is pretty decent but the Coronado Mermaid Red is where it’s at.

JorBabe and I both had the red (and tons of water) and then we all decided it’d prob be a good idea to get a meal in us. We went for a cup of their chili and were all in heaven. If you’re ever looking for a great chili, go hereeee!

<<<Side note: The Black Marlin has the best breakfast burritos we’ve found near us but they only serve them until 11am. These suckers are huge so make sure you split one if you’re not a big eater!>>>

The Swinging Door was our last and final stop. It’s a total dive bar but can be a blast if you’re with the right crowd.  The pros of this place are the jukebox and the pool table. The cons? The jukebox. We had to take it over and fill up a few hours worth of music to avoid having to listen to the awful music some random guy kept playing.

Our little Tour De Tustin was such a blast! There’s something about discovering new things with your mate that just keeps everything exciting. I mean, we also have our faves that we go back to but the newness is where it’s at for us. We are both so adventurous and there is so much out there to see so it works out:)

Killer Calabacitas

This is by farrrrrr my favorite side dish ever. Or main meal dish because when there is Calabacitas…GAME ON.

I grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico with the best green chili ever- REAL REAL hatch green chili. Like, it’s actually spicy.

When we first moved out here, we were superrrr confused because nothing was that spicy even though everyone claimed it to be. We went through serious withdrawals and had to make sure to get back to NM during roasting season in order to get us a sack or two of the green chili. We’d take it back to my Grandparent’s house and peel and bag it all up then drive back to CA. We have a freezer in our garage just for the green chili and these sacks usually last us almost a year. Thankfully, we finally found a company that actually hauls a ton of the green chili out here every year and all we have to do is head to LA to pick it up! If you’re interested, let me know!

I grew up on this dish and will never get sick of it. It’s so simple and sooo easy to make!

2 zucchinis, halved and sliced

2 squashes, halved and sliced

1 cup organic corn

1/4 cup green chili* (We use 1/4 cup bc we LOVE spicy but start small and work your way up)

2 cloves garlic

1/2 purple onion

Melt a little coconut oil in a skillet on medium heat. Throw in the garlic and onion and sauté for a few minutes. Next, add your zucchini, squash, corn and cook for 3-5 minutes. Finally, add your green chili and mix in well. Let cook a few more minutes and serve!

There are quite a few variations but this is by far my faveeee. It’s a Mexican dish but you can literally use it as a side for anything!

*You can find canned hatch green chili at your local grocery store. It’s not as fresh but it’s still very tasty! And they have mild for those who can’t do spice.

REALLL Lavender Lemonade

Anyone ever been to Native Foods and had their lavender lemonade?!

Honestly, it’s sooo good. I love their entire menu, but I love their lavender lemonade more. If it was acceptable to guzzle down 5 gallons of this stuff instead of eating, I totally would.

JK. Kindaaaa.

If you haven’t had it, you must drop everything and get there now. Plane, train or automobile, you must do what it takes.

Orrrr I guess you could save the $$$ and the headache and just make your own with this lovely little recipe. It’s not their recipe but it’s pretty darn close. And I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that it’s much much healthier!

Lavender Lemonade:

1/2 – 1 cup raw honey (start small and add more if needed)

 6 cups water

1-2 drop(s) lavender essential oil

8 lemons, peeled and juiced (I used meyer lemons bc they are a little sweeter so you don’t have to use as much honey)

Lavender sprigs for garnish

Combine all ingredients into a glass pitcher and chill. To serve, pour over a few glasses of crushed ice and garnish with lavender sprigs.

<<<I also threw in some roses because I love roses/rose oil>>>

Sooooo it’s said that this magical recipe is supposed to cure headaches and anxiety. I get killer anxiety and swear by lavender oil {more here}. It calms the senses and while it’s one of the most powerful herbs, it is also the most gentle. I’ve been so busy/stressed lately that it’s really the only thing keeping me sane!

Lavender oil possesses amazing anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, antidepressant, antiseptic, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antispasmodic, analgesic, detoxifier, hypotensive, and sedative properties.

I actually just stocked up on quite a few essential oils and am SO excited to be able to start turning to them when needed! I am not one to take meds. I’d rather suffer through the sickness or the pain than take that crap. Now I don’t have to, all thanks to the best essential oils in the world. They are seriously life changing. I highly recommend looking into them!

I think I’ll add a little wild orange oil or some lime oil to my next batch. YUM!

P.S. totally added shot of tequila to this for dinner last night too…ohemgeeee good!

Date Me Coconut Milk Creamer

If you know me, you know that I love my coffee. I have tried super hard to kick it but I’m too far gone. It’s not even the caffeine that I need- It’s the smell and the taste that I’m just in lurve with!

I use to be so super duper into this cinnamon coffee creamer that you could only find at Von’s grocery store until I started becoming more health conscious and learned just how awful that stuff is for you. Since then I’ve slowly converted my coffee-loving fam bam to the good side and we’ll never turn back.

I posted this Coconut Milk Creamer recipe a few months ago and while I loveeee it, I thought I’d test out another option. Of course I am still using my full fat coconut milk because it’s my jam but instead of using coconut sugar or honey, I thought I’d try it out with some dates. Dates are GREAT natural sweeteners. I highly recommend adding them to smoothies! I perfected my favorite smoothie recipe and def cannot live without the dates now.

Date Me Coco Creamer:

2 cans full-fat organic coconut milk

6 organic dates, pitted

oil/flavoring of choice (optional)

Put your cans of coconut milk creamer into the fridge for about 3 hours. When it’s ready to go, soak your dates in warm water for about 10 minutes. Next, empty the coconut milks into a blender, add dates, cinnamon and flavoring. Blend well! I find the best way to store it is in fun mason jars!

I like to test out different flavors. This time I’m using the organic almond flavoring for a sexy amaretto creamer. Next, I think I’ll test out an orange creamer and use some of my doTerra Wild Orange essential oil in it! All it takes is a drop or two and the possibilities are endless!

It’s so great to be able to enjoy my coffee guilt-free now! As of late, I am loving the organic dark roast from our local coffee shop.

Mmm Mmm Mmm!
